Pyrokardia sent me an Ebook version of his book in return for a honest review, and I am so thankful for that.

Broken Wishbones and Empty Spaces is actually the first poetry book I've ever read in my life. I promised myself to read more of this genre in 2017. So that's what I'll do!

I've only experienced a minor heartbreak in my life, but yet most of these poems hit me in the right spot. I could feel the author's emotions as if they were my own, or does that sounds weird? I hope not!

What I like about this book is that if you own the physical version of it you'll have a blank bit of space beneath the poems where you can fill in a title that speaks to you personally. I really like that idea.

So if you like poetry about heartbreak and love, or if you've never read a poetry book in your life, like me. I would definitely recommend you this book.

“Broken Wishbones and Empty Spaces” is a collection of poems about love and heartbreak. I used to read a lot of poetry a few years ago, but I stopped and this book has inspired me to get back into reading poetry. I finished reading all the poems in one sitting, once I started reading I couldn’t stop!

I received a copy from the author in exchange for a honest review.

Firstly, this collection of poetry was slightly reminiscent of Rupi Kaur's Milk and Honey, which I loved!

Secondly, this book revolves around one particular theme. It is broken, for the broken-hearted, those who have trusted and have been betrayed and those who have loved and have been broken by it. These poems explore how they are on this constant loop of filling that gap in their chest that has been opened by a significant other — or anything else for that matter — with whatever they think might heal it again, i.e. toxic relationships. It's writing style was simple, with a tone of melancholy throughout, but effective and beautifully written at times. It's a collection that is relatable, especially if you have gone through the above, finding comfort and healing in it, though it isn't necessarily providing the reader with a solution. But there's nothing more comforting than being able to relate to others, to be understood and finding some form of sanctuary in it and I think this book does that.

This book will be available to buy on Amazon on January 22, 2017.

    3.5/5 Stars

I was contacted by Pyrokardia on instagram to do a review of Broken Wishbones and Empty Spaces. Overall, I liked this book of poems. A lot of the poems talk about love. Being in love, falling from love, loving love. While I did really enjoy them at first, after a little while they started become repetitive to me. It often had poems that were, in my opinion, very similar to previous ones. This kind of made the book drone on for me in some sections. I felt like I was reading the same p

Being in love, falling from love, loving love. While I did really enjoy them at first, after a little while they started become repetitive to me. It often had poems that were, in my opinion, very similar to previous ones. This kind of made the book drone on for me in some sections. I felt like I was reading the same poems over and over again in some instances. However, I think this could because I didn't relate to these poems personally. If love and romantic relationships are something you relate to or are interested in, then maybe Proykardia's poems are perfect for you!

That's not to say ALL the poems are about love. There are a handful about writing, and breathing, and just living. Those I really loved, and found myself bookmarking as I read. At times he captured what it's like to struggle with yourself, with anxiety, and with self confidence perfectly. There were also illustrations that went along with the poems, which is reminiscent of Milk and Honey to me.

Something I really enjoyed, and that was unique to Broken Wishbones and Empty Spaces, was Proykardia's author's note. In his note, he mentions how poems are a very personal thing to each person and how interpretations of them are always different for each individual. He encourages the reader to fill in the blank spaces above the poem with a title you seem fitting. I loved this about them poems, I think it really strives to include the reader in each section of poems.

Overall, I did have issues with this book of poetry, but I also did really enjoy some aspects of it, too!
